MORE ABOUT TIM COLLINS
I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts. My love for adventure was discovered at a young age. The passion for adventures in the form of motorcycling was revealed to me at 19 years old when my older brother, Billy, taught me how to ride a motorcycle.
Always having a nomadic spirit, I have lived in several states in the US including Massachusetts, California, a short stint living on a circus train throughout the south east, a few years in New York and most recently Arizona.
I landed in Arizona while pursuing an education in motorcycle mechanics. After finding such a deep affection for the desert I decided to spend the next four years, after graduating MMI, to stay and explore all that Arizona and the south west had to offer.
Currently I am living a more location independent and mobile life. I feel most at home on the road and I have diligently built a life over the last 5 years that will allow the freedom to roam. My preference is an unconventional lifestyle and I hope to show others that no matter how stuck you may feel in life, there are always options.
difficult years
I have had no shortage of struggles in life. Addiction, anxiety, depression and other mental health and emotional conflicts have been some of the many hurdles on my path. Today I am proud to be nearly a decade clean and sober. Although, I do still struggle with anxiety and depression. I feel that it is important to be open and honest about my journey with those demons.
Adventure and motorcycles were a literal life saver for me. Early in sobriety I started to travel further and further by motorcycle. Eventually departing on a 2 month journey around the United States. I found an immense amount of healing and strength from that experience. Because of this I feel it is important to talk openly about my struggles as a way to show others with similar challenges that there is hope and there are vehicles to lift yourself back up.
A large portion of credit for my success in sobriety goes to my motorcycle adventures. I also feel that the personal growth caused by travel has and continues to aid in learning to overcome and live with anxiety. Although there are certain aspects of travel that would appear to push my limits with social anxiety, I find that by pushing those boundaries, my comfort zone continues to expand.
Through being open and honest about my battles, I have found that many other motorcycle enthusiast have had similar results in their lives. I hope to continue finding people around the world who are still looking for that answer and I hope to help them discover that adventure can be a wonderful source of light in the darkness.
brighter horizons
After graduating from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Arizona I decided that pursuing a career in that field would likely leave me feeling disappointed. I had come so far at that point with overcoming addiction and was at a point of deep personal reflection. Dreaming of a more important purpose, I was at a loss for how to attain it.
My dreams were enormous, and seemingly out of any realistic reach from that place in my life.
Never having been one to take no for an answer, I buckled down and got to work. All my free time was spent researching and planning, learning everything I could about motorcycles, travel, camping and adventure. The rest of the time was spent working as much as possible to save and financially position myself for this move. The path was not a straight one and was scattered with challenges and heartache.
I remained driven and focused and stayed the course.
The plan was to leave on an indefinite trip around the world. Living off my motorcycle, finding spiritual respite in the beauty of the world, fellowship in the people I meet, satisfaction in reaching people with similar demons and the quiet solitude of motorcycle travel.
All this while working remotely through YouTube and other digital means. There was a hidden passion uncovered along this journey. That was sharing my experiences with others. Through the internet connecting with people all over the world I have found great satisfaction in teaching and inspiring others to follow their own adventures.
2019 us National parks trip
On May 1st, 2019 I had finally achieved my goal. I had created a path of possibility for myself. One that led to leaving my home to pursue full time travel by motorcycle. I spent the first year of travel visiting all the national parks in the lower 48 US states while working out the logistics of working remotely and living on a motorcycle.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my home country before venturing off to discover the beauty of the rest of the world.
As of January 2020 I am currently exploring Mexico. The plan is to leave for South America by fall of 2020. After that I hope to continue working my way around the world, exploring all that I can and making friends as I go.
I hope to inspire others to reach for the stars and live life to the fullest. I believe pursuing my own dreams should serve as proof that anyone can achieve their dreams with focus and determination.
